Our Business Crime team is continuing to work with police to tackle shoplifting and robberies. Regular patrols are being carried out, focusing on a number of offenders responsible for most of the crimes in our neighbourhood.

During March we have seen one of these individuals sent to prison for shoplifting and we are looking to follow that up with an application for an order restricting them from entering the Angel in the future.

Other recent activity has included:

  • 49 instances of location monitoring and reassurance. 22 crime prevention / advisory engagements.
  • 12 individuals or groups warned about their conduct. Six anti-social behaviour warnings issued.
  • 10 street begging incidents addressed.
  • Five occasions police attendance requested. Four instances of providing public assistance.

The team's important in-person liaison with the area's communities has included meetings with retail staff (193) and public (31), as well as intelligence gathering and reassurance.

We need your help in continuing to report crimes so police can take action. The BID's Business Crime Manager Gerry Morgan and team are available to help and support your business. We have a dedicated police officer for the BID area, PC Laura Brand, and working together we can link crimes committed by individuals. This means they can face a number of charges when they attend court, properly reflecting the extent of their activity.

PC Brand can help you with crime prevention advice, training and problem-solving for your business. She can also help follow up crime reports you have made and hear feedback.

Banning offenders from your business can also help. We have developed a form you can use for this and the police will hold that information too. If you are interested in joining the scheme, contact Gerry at Gerry@angelislington.london.

Together with the police, the BID is also looking to produce a crime and safety pack for businesses offering advice on crime prevention, how to report crime and what happens if legal action is taken. We are looking for businesses to trial this so if you are interested in helping us develop it, contact Gerry at Gerry@angelislington.london.

If you would like a visit from the BID Business Crime Team, or need advice on crime prevention, contact the BID’s Business Crime Manager Gerry Morgan at Gerry@angelislington.london.
