December business crime prevention update
Our Business Crime Team in partnership with Parkguard continues to address crime issues in the Angel area. Recent activity included:
- Welfare checks on one individual 37 times.
- Eight Anti-Social Behaviour warning forms issued.
- Six individuals detained, resulting in four arrests by police and two reported.
- Nineteen individuals warned and advised.
- Fourteen individuals directed to leave the area.
Additionally, the team engaged with and helped many members of the public, as well as provided crime prevention advice. Earlier this week, the BID's Business Crime Manager Gerry Morgan joined neighbourhood police, the newly appointed chair of the St Mary’s and St James’ ward panel, and two local residents for a walk and talk. BID chairman Matthew Crawford also attended, providing an insightful overview of the BID's work. The group carried out a high-visibility reassurance patrol, walking along Upper Street and through the surrounding area, finishing on Essex Road. Challenges facing the area and key issues requiring attention were discussed. During the summer, we reviewed our role in reducing business crime and changed the way we operated our patrolling service. Our Business Crime Manager, Gerry Morgan, has now been joined by a new business crime team operated by Parkguard Ltd. Since they joined in August, we have been able to increase our presence in the area to tackle shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and other crimes. The team has initiated nine arrests and been called to support businesses on 179 occasions. We have identified the most prolific criminals in our area and are now working with the police and council to make sure they are sanctioned, which we hope will include excluding them from the area.
