A new set of Government regulations on how we recycle will come into effect on March 31, this year. ‘Simpler Recycling' aims to make recycling easier and ensure more consistent recycling across homes, businesses, and schools in England, to help reduce general waste and increase recycling overall.

As of March 31, 2025, all businesses with 10 or more full-time employees, must start separating all dry recyclables (glass, paper, card, metals, plastics) and ensure food waste is collected separately from their general waste service, regardless of the amount produced. Micro-firms (with fewer than 10 full-time employees) will have until March 31, 2027, to comply with the new legislation, and all businesses must recycle plastic film packaging. This standard applies to the business as a whole, not individual sites. As a minimum, your business will need to have in place a dry mixed recycling service (for glass, metal, plastics, paper and card), a food recycling service and a general waste service.
