Charlton Place 'Local Access Only' pilot now permanent

A trial allowing access to Charlton Place for local traffic only has now become fixed. Islington Council implemented a ‘Local Access Only’ arrangement on Charlton Place under an Experimental Traffic Order (ETO) from July 28, 2023. This restricted vehicle access except to drivers visiting or servicing an address in Charlton Place, Camden Passage, Shalford Court or Noble Yard, such as residents, traders, customers and taxis. Following the trial, results showed traffic volumes were down by 56% on average on weekdays and by 54% on average over seven days compared to before interventions were implemented in 2022. With traffic monitoring results meeting objectives, the scheme has become permanent as of January 31, 2025. Vehicles not accessing or servicing properties, or parking on Charlton Place, will still be prohibited from using the road as a through route. For more information, email stpetersltn@islington.gov.uk.
