"Wandering down Upper Street to Angel is mine and my husband’s favourite thing to do on a sunny day and we often find ourselves here on weekend evenings too. We hop between all the lovely local pubs on the backstreets behind the main road, like the Earl of Essex, Duke of Cambridge, Plaquemine Lock and Island Queen.

In an effort to broaden our horizons we’ve pledged that in 2024 we’ll only go to restaurants that we haven’t been to before and Angel has so many amazing places to eat that this isn’t really a challenge at all; we’ve already discovered amazing Austrian schnitzel and sausage at Kipferl (pictured above) and Turkish mezze at Gallipoli. But sad that we can’t go back to these places or some of our old favourites, like Tofu Vegan (authentic vegan Chinese) and Jam Delish (vegan Caribbean food and cocktails) until 2025.

And speaking of top-notch vegan food, on our weekend walks we’re often tempted into British Patagonia by their nearly-all-vegan display of pastries and cakes, and more recently their pistachio ice-crone (croissant cone) which has gone viral for good reason - it’s insanely good.

We’ll also look on with envy - and make notes for future weeks - at everyone having brunch outside at places like Urban Social and the Blue Legume as we walk down the street nipping in and out of the many, many excellent charity shops in the area offering endless amounts of high quality lovely clothing so cheaply.

We probably buy the majority of our clothes from these shops now and this is just one of the reasons that Angel keeps pulling us back like a magnet!"
